Pruning, Crown Reductions and Crown Lifting
Tree Pruning, Crown Reductions and Crown Lifting in Pembrokeshire
Regular, correctly executed pruning is one of the most important things you can do to maintain the health, safety and appearance of your trees. ADW Tree Services provides professional pruning and crown management across Pembrokeshire and West Wales, with all work carried out to British Standard BS 3998 by our NPTC qualified arborists.
Whether your trees are overhanging a property, blocking light, becoming a safety concern, or simply in need of a tidy up, we'll assess each tree individually and recommend the most appropriate course of action.
Crown Reduction
Crown reduction reduces the overall size of a tree's canopy while maintaining its natural shape and structure. It's typically carried out to reduce wind resistance, limit the spread of the tree over a building or boundary, or to bring an overgrown tree back into proportion with its surroundings.
Unlike topping - which is damaging and not a practice we carry out - a proper crown reduction removes branches back to suitable growth points, preserving the tree's health and appearance for years to come.
Crown Lifting
Crown lifting involves removing the lower branches of a tree to raise the height of the canopy from the ground. This is commonly carried out to improve clearance over roads, paths and driveways, to allow more light through to gardens and lawns, or to improve visibility and sightlines on a property.
We work within recommended guidelines for crown lifting, ensuring that enough live crown is retained to keep the tree in good health.
Crown Thinning
Crown thinning removes a proportion of the smaller branches throughout the canopy to allow more light and air movement through the tree, without changing its overall shape or size. It can help reduce wind loading and is often recommended for trees with particularly dense canopies.
Deadwooding and Hazard Pruning
Deadwood - dead branches within the canopy - can fall without warning and presents a safety risk, particularly over paths, gardens and driveways. We can remove deadwood safely and also carry out targeted hazard pruning to address specific branches that pose a risk to people or property.
Why Pruning Should Be Done Properly
Incorrect pruning can cause lasting damage to a tree, leaving it vulnerable to disease, decay and structural failure. Our qualified team understands tree biology and makes every cut with the long-term health of the tree in mind, always pruning back to the correct points to minimise wound size and promote healthy regrowth.
